Currently, ANTENA 3 is the first Free TV and Commercial Radio Communications Group, listed on the Spanish Exchange Market. The Company operates in different sectors of activity through, among other companies, ANTENA 3 (TV), ONDA CERO and EUROPA FM (radio) and MOVIERECORD (advertising in commercial theatres).
Among the shareholders of ANTENA 3 group there are multinational companies from the contents and communications sectors, such as the Planeta-De Agostini and RTL groups.
ANTENA 3 was incorporated as a company in 1988, and was awarded one of the three Private TV licenses tendered in Spain. The channel became the first private TV offer available to Spanish viewers - its regular broadcasts started on 25th January 1990 - and soon it started its development as one of the references of the audiovisual Spanish market.
Recently, in Spring 2003, the Company started a new phase with the incorporation of the company Kort Geding, owned by the Planeta and De Agostini groups, into its shareholding. The new shareholders appointed a new management team, who immediately implemented a strategic plan, the first objective of which was the flotation of the Group. This materialised on 29th October 2003, when ANTENA 3 group made its market debut in the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Grupo Antena 3, through its different business lines is present in all the most important communications media: television, radio, cinema, internet and digital terrestrial television.
In 2007, the most competitive year in television history, was the second best year of all time for Grupo Antena 3 in terms of financial results.
ANTENA 3 TV was able to maintain its second place ranking both in terms of audience and market share. In 2007, the year DTT took off, Antena 3 TV¿s channels, ANTENA.NEOX y ANTENA.NOVA, positioned themselves as leaders in this new television segment. In December 2007, Neox was the sixth most watched channel in digital households in Spain, surpassing the audience of La 2 in this respect.
UNIPREX, the Group¿s subsidiary, once again registered a record year. ONDA CERO battled it out for second place in the Spanish radio market, while EUROPA FM showed spectacular growth levels. Moreover, Uniprex maintained its strong commitment to digital television through its VER-T brand. The growth in audiences for Onda Cero and Europa FM and the excellent financial results obtained demonstrate the companies strong positioning in the Spanish radio market.
ATRES ADVERTISING consolidated its standing in 2007 as the leading company in the exclusive advertising sector. Commercial communication obtained a valuable multiplier effect, thanks to the wide scope of Antena 3 TV, Onda Cero and Europa FM, and the robust market presence of cinema and the press, to which we should also add the profile and interactivity of the internet.
UNIPUBLIC, which started an ambitious diversification plan in 2006, registered a very strong performance in 2006, and solidified its position as one of the leading companies specializing in the organisation of events.
ANTENA 3 MULTIMEDIA boasted one of the highest growth rates in the Group in 2007. It was the pioneer in Spain in launching various initiatives on the internet with the aim of offering more content, services, and tools for its viewers and listeners. Similarly, it successfully developed its telephony, teletext and licensing business which converted the Group into the leader in digital solutions.
Grupo Antena 3 is also present in advertising in the cinema sector, through MOVIERECORD, a leading company which maintained its 45% screen share in 2007, and increase operating profits by close to 10% with respect to the previous year. As in previous years, in 2007, Grupo Antena¿3 maintained its commitment to Spanish cinema through the production of large budget films, with its subsidiary ANTENA3 FILMS, and TV movies. We would draw special attention to Siete mesas de bilar francés, Lola, la película, Angeles S.A. and El ekipo JA, one of the most successful comedies of the year. These businesses, which reflect the diversified strategy of Grupo Antena 3, have made it into a formidable communications entity which uses innovation and creativity to meet the challenges of a sector that is in constant evolution and flux.
